Promising Football Player Tajh Boyd of Liberty University Dies at 19
The football community is mourning the tragic loss of 19-year-old Tajh Boyd, a freshman offensive lineman at Liberty University. Boyd passed away suddenly on August 7, 2023, leaving behind grieving teammates, coaches, family and friends.
About Tajh Boyd
Tajh Boyd was born on August 20, 2003 in Chesapeake, Virginia. He attended Oscar F. Smith High School where he excelled as an offensive lineman and helped lead the school to back-to-back state championships.
Boyd was heavily recruited coming out of high school and received offers from over a dozen colleges and universities including Bowling Green, Buffalo, Duke, Virginia Tech and others. In December 2022, Boyd committed to play football for Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia.
Promising Football Career Cut Short
At 6-foot-3 and 315 pounds, Boyd had the size and strength to be a formidable force on the offensive line. He joined Liberty's football program in January 2023 and was expected to be an impact player for the Flames.
Liberty head coach Jamey Chadwell praised Boyd, saying "his impact on the program will be felt for years to come." He was looking forward to starting his college football career this fall. Tragically, Boyd's life and football career were cut far too short at just 19 years old.

"When you come to the Mountain, you immediately become a part of the Liberty University family and something truly special. We thank God for bringing Tajh into our Liberty Athletics community and we will always remember him as a Flame. Tajh will be missed dearly."

The cause of Boyd's sudden death has not been publicly disclosed at this time. The Liberty athletic department requested privacy for Boyd's family as they grieve this immense loss.
